Why is 40ʹ HC more common than 40ʹ GP?

The extra foot of interior height is essentially free — same footprint, same handling, same cost structure. Most operators specify HC by default. Factories run more HC lines than standard-height 40ʹ.

What’s the difference between 40ʹ HC and 45ʹ HC?

Length only. 45ʹ HC is 5 feet longer with no change to width or height. Useful for maximum cubic in domestic intermodal but harder to handle on tight trucking routes.
